These pages are meant to help introduce the changing lengths of shadows to children. I have included 2 versions of a Shadow investigation- measuring the length of someone’s shadow several times during the day and over several days to see patterns in the length. One version follows the Scientific Method using the words: Question, Materials, Procedure, Data/Observations, Conclusion and Further Questions. The other is a simple one page investigation with room for observations and questions to answer. There are 12 pictures with shadows to sort into 2 Headings: Shadows Near Noon and Shadows in the Morning or Afternoon (based on the length of the shadow). There is a student worksheet with pictures to cut out and put in the correct column. These are the same pictures as in the Shadow Sort. These are pages I made to help my class explore the properties of objects (properties such as: hard, soft, wooden, plastic, circle, square, heavy, light). The papers tell the students what to do and has room for them to draw and write what they did. For these activities, you will need 2 bags of objects. Bag A should be a random group of objects including some wooden objects, some plastic objects and some soft and hard objects. I used things such as cotton balls, wooden blocks, pattern blocks, counters, straws, etc. Bag B should include various items that have a circle shape and a square shape.
